The Art of Chi Kung by Grandmaster Wong Kiew Kit

Welcome. My name is Matthew Wood, and I have been practicing Shaolin Cosmos Qigong since 2009.

My Story

Prior to 2009 I was practicing Tai Chi at another school, and I found I experienced more tingling (chi) in my hands and energy (qi) in my body when I performed the warm up exercises, which I discovered were Chi Kung (Qigong) exercises.

I made it my mission to find out more, and my research led me to Grandmaster Wong Kiew Kit‘s fabulous book “The Art of Chi Kung”. I was blown away by the breadth and depth of the art.

This led me to train with the Chief Instructor of the UK, learning directly from Grandmaster Wong Kiew Kit at UK Summer Camps, travelling to Malaysia for intensive and special courses, and practicing twice daily at home and in weekly classes with various Instructors from our school over the years.

In 2018 I was honoured to be appointed as a Qigong Instructor by Sifu Wong (Sifu meaning “teacher” or “father”). I am now focused on spreading these wonderful arts to deserving students.

Wonderful Benefits

Over the course of my Qigong training, I have experienced a profound and positive transformation across all areas of my life. I have genuinely experienced the full range of benefits the art claims to provide. I also know that the longer I practice, the deeper and more profound these benefits will become.

Health and Vitality

Since practicing Shaolin Cosmos Qigong I have found my health improving steadily over time. I became less susceptible to colds and flus, to the extent that nowadays I am rarely ill.

My posture has improved and I now stand much more upright than I did.

I was wearing orthotics to correct pronation in my feet, and over time I was able to stop wearing these and still have good posture and gait.

I noticed that I was able to relax more deeply and remain relaxed throughout the day. This alone is an amazing benefit!

Through practicing the Chi Kung eye exercises I was able to stop wearing glasses for VDU work and reading.

Possibly the most impactful of all benefits has been the ability to remain calm, free from stress and staying relaxed under demanding and stressful conditions. I have developed an emotional resilience and stability I had never had before, and this has been incredibly useful in today’s demanding world. I feel healthy and vital, relaxed and focused now by default. When knocked off balance, I can return to a place of balance quickly and easily.

Longevity

I feel fitter and healthier than I have ever done. I found myself naturally making different choices about what I was consuming and what I was participating in. The weekend cigarette in a social setting wasn’t wanted any more. I reduced alcohol consumption without any specific focus. Food choices became more healthy. All this occurred without “trying” to achieve anything, it just happened naturally. While I can’t prove longevity – yet – my general health is a great indicator, and my recent “well man” assessment shows I’m in great health.

Internal Force & Peak Performance

Internal force is a quality and volume of energy that is extremely useful for daily life. In the past I would have been exhausted after a hard day at the office. Now, my energy levels have risen such that I have plenty of energy for life – at work, at home, and at play.

The increase in energy is not just useful on a physical level. It has the effect of developing a clarity of mind, leading to peak performance in whatever I do. That’s not to say that I am always the best – but I am always bringing forth my best, and that’s important to me.

The development of internal force has also had a positive impact on my emotional stability and resilience, my ability to relax, to remain calm and bounce back from the curveballs of life.

Mind Expansion / Expanding Awareness

Without “trying” to do or achieve anything, I have found my awareness expanding. This includes personal awareness, inter-personal awareness and the broader intra-personal awareness, opening me up to the field of energy in which we live.

With awareness comes choice over how we respond to life, and this has improved the quality of my relationships.  It has brought about greater love and compassion in my life for my family, friends and the world in general.

It has also evolved my world view and my perspective on life, and this carries on expanding. Whether we call it Mind, Awareness, Consciousness or something else, I firmly believe that we live in an expanding Universe and the expansion of Consciousness is a fundamental part of human evolution. Our own personal growth is an important contribution to the expansion of Consciousness as a whole. This expansion has led to me practice Zen meditation, to becoming a Master Reiki energy healer, a ThetaHealer, to training in Neuro Linguistic Programming, Time Line Therapy and Hypnosis, and more recently in Bone Yoga. My reading list is wide and long. I am a dedicated life long learner with an attitude of a beginner’s mind curious to know more… and more… and more!

Spiritual Cultivation

Although I was baptised Catholic, I have never actively practiced a religion and I used to consider myself agnostic. Coming from an environment where my father was an atheist and my mother disliked her religious upbringing with a passion, I consider my position fairly open minded, all things considered ;).

Without looking for it, I found Qigong acted as a catalyst for a voracious internal exploration into the nature of life and my part in it, seeking to connect with my spiritual essence, independent of any formal religion.

I know plenty of people with a chosen faith that find their teachings come to life through the practice of Qigong, and I also know people with no specific faith that gain significant health benefits Qigong offers, and experience a greater connectedness with life.

My Goal

My goal is to pass on the incredible art of Shaolin Chi Kung to others, so that they too can experience the amazing and practical benefits Qigong provides across all dimensions of life.
