Who We Are
Matthew Wood is the Founder and Chief Instructor at Shaolin Qigong Hampshire. Since he started training in Shaolin Qigong in 2009, his life has transformed in all areas, beginning with the very first experience. You can read more about it here.
Where it all began
Prior to 2009, Matthew practiced Tai Chi at another school. He “accidentally” discovered Tai Chi during a low point in life when a Tai Chi class started at his local gym. Shortly afterwards, he joined a dedicated martial arts school and it was here that he noticed tingling in his hands and strange sensations in his body during the warm-up exercises.
This was energy (known also as chi or qi). Matthew felt more energy during the warm-up than he did during the main class and discovered that the warm-up exercises were from an art called Qigong (alternatively spelled Chi Kung).
As a result, he was extremely curious to find out more, and his research led him to Grandmaster Wong Kiew Kit‘s incredible book “The Art of Chi Kung”. Blown away by the breadth and depth of the art, he pondered that if even a small fraction of it was true, it would be incredible. He now knows from direct experience that authentic Qigong is truly incredible.
Matthew has trained directly with Grandmaster Wong Kiew Kit both in the UK and in Malaysia every year since 2009, and with other instructors from the Shaolin Wahnam Institute.
Spreading the Arts
When Sifu Wong appointed Matthew a Qigong Instructor in 2018 it was an honour. Being able to practice an authentic, high level art is wonderful lucky and a real privilege; being able to teach others and pass on the art is a dream come true. Matthew is now committed to spreading this incredible, wonderous and practical art on to others.
